This year has been full of major ups and downs. I started it hoping that this year was going to be the year I really got everything together and start having a little more forward momentum. But it seemed that I was just stuck in a rut.
It got a little better during the summer. Didn't do much but hang out at the pool and go out with a few new friends. Meeting new people is always fun. This past birthday was one of the best I have ever had. I got to spend the day with my daughter at the aquarium. It was so nice to just have a girl's day out.
Then during our family trip to VT to visit my mother, my little girl had her first seizure. We were on the side of a mountain in the middle of Virginia. By far the scariest day of my life. I thought I had lost her... it was a very tough time for our little family. But we made it to my mother's and had a wonderful time there even though it rained most of the time, it wasn't as bad as the rain down here in Atlanta during that time. We came home and started the tests to find out why she had a seizure. Thankfully the MRI came back normal but the results of the EEG were that she has epilepsy. It now seems to be controlled with medication but we have racked up quite the medical bills due to the emergency room, medical transport, another bigger hospital in VA, and tests done.
I started going to the gym not long after we got back from our vacation. That lasted about 4 or 5 months. It was great while I was going but it just was too expensive and took too much time out of my day. I now do work out at home and get about the same results.
Dragon Con was insane this year. I wasn't used to so many people since I haven't been in several years. I had a lot of fun dressing up and being unrecognizable. But, man, wigs are warm! I was even able to fit in a session during the con, which was great, and I promptly bought tickets for next year. At the end of Sept I got a message from a photographer I had worked with last year. We did an amazing photo shoot this time around. The gas mask picture is from that set. I was amazed at how much I had changed in a year.
September ended and October began in sadness... I lost a dear friend, whom, by suicide or accident, took his own life. My heart still aches for those he left behind.
Halloween was really fun and Thanksgiving was super busy. I started having regular sessions with a new person and without going into much detail it has been really fun. This has been stretching my creative muscles. I love it.
My husband is a disabled veteran and we got to meet his service dog for the first time. This was a crazy, emotional and wonderful weekend in mid Dec. Its a bit like adopting a child, we have met him, but don't get to bring him home yet.
This year's Holiday season was just as crazy... It turned out to be a wonderful time. We celebrated Yule this year and had a little party on the Monday after the solstice. We watched classic holiday movies, ate food, drank coffee, had great conversation, and lots of fun watching a bunch of kids beat salt dough into submission. Christmas day was spent with my lovely husband and kids at his work. It really was wonderfully low key. The day after we took a trip down to my father's and as we were getting off the interstate the idler pulley broke along with the belt in our Blazer. While checking everything out while we were fixing that problem I found a hole in the bell housing/oil pan... some JB weld and 5 quarts of oil, a new pulley and belt later we were running better than before. I love working on cars. :P
Things that I am thankful for from this year:
- I got a steam cleaner (OMG I love it)
- I fixed a death causing problem in my car
- Business is doing fairly well
- Generic Keppera
- Service dogs
- wonderful husband, family, and friends
Now I am looking toward next year..
It will be a wonderful year. I just know it will. We have so much to look forward to.
We are already doing fundraising for my husband's service dog, Myer. We are also working on getting at least one new vehicle for when Myer comes home. If you are interesting helping us pay-it-forward or funding-the-car-fund, email me and I will send you the links. Hopefully he will finish his specialized training by the end of 2014 or sooner and we can bring him home.
I have plans to help myself, including but not limited to, taking one day a week for myself regardless of whether or not I have sessions. I did much better when I worked on business things away from home at least once a week.
My husband and I both are looking to be more involved with our community.
Hoping for new and better employment for my husband.
So here's to a New Year, new beginnings, and new adventures.
